Meet our Leadership team
Calvary Chapel Raleigh exists as a body to make disciples of Jesus Christ through shepherding the body of believers and people in surrounding communities. We encourage them to grow in their faith through worship, bible study, prayer and outreach. Our supreme desire is to know Christ and to be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Calvary Chapel Raleigh is a church where ‘The Vertical and the Horizontal lead to the Eternal”. By prioritizing our ‘vertical’ relationship with Christ, this in turn has a positive effect on our relationships with others (‘horizontal’). When the world sees these healthy, thriving relationships, it attracts people to Jesus, ultimately leading to the ‘eternal’. This is simply a picture of the Cross.
Steve & Suzanne Williams
Born in New York and raised in South Florida, Steve married his college sweetheart Suzanne, on May 24, 1997 in Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada (Suzanne’s hometown). They have five children: Kaleb, Noah, Isaiah, Samyia, and Joy. Prior to Calvary Chapel Raleigh, Steve served for 12 years at Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale in various ministry capacities, including; Pastoral care, Family Ministry Pastor, Biblical Counseling, Men's discipleship and wrestling coach. Ordained in 2009, Steve's life verse is 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 — "Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, and be strong. Let all that you do be done with love."
After much prayer, consideration and confirmation in 2011/2012, Steve and Suzanne discerned it was God's will to start Calvary Chapel Raleigh. They wrestled with God due to the fact that they loved their church in Fort Lauderdale. However God was very clear:
"I am the God who appeared to you at Bethel-the place where you made your vow to me. Now get ready to leave this country and return to the land of your birth." – Genesis 31:13
"If you cling to your life you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you will find it." – Matt 10:39"
"How will they hear unless someone preaches to them? How can someone preach to them unless they are sent?" – Romans 10:14
"The harvest is great but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask Him to send more workers into the fields." – Matthew 9:37-38
"Get ready and move to Bethel and settle there. Build an altar there to God..." – Genesis 35:1
As former NC State student athletes who were discipled and transformed in Raleigh, Steve and Suzanne knew this was their place of spiritual birth- their 'Bethel.' So, one year later, in a giant leap of faith (based on God's word, prophecy, circumstances and wise counsel), the Williams family obeyed the prompting of the Holy Spirit and moved from Ft Lauderdale to Raleigh to begin Calvary Chapel Raleigh. They feel excited, humbled and privileged to be serving the people here.
